Hinoki Kusaki Dying and Weaving Gallery

This is the shop of Yoko Kano, the creator of all the noren featured along this street. The noren for her own doorway features a white circle on a brown background. The brown dye was made from the bark of the Japanese cypress tree, or hinoki. The white circle represents the feeling of warmth and acceptance that Ms. Kano wants to express to everyone who visits her. Her wide gallery with an earth floor was constructed in 1764. Inside you can find not only dyed and woven goods, but other one-of-a-kind handcrafted items as well. The noren of Katsuyama are all created in a studio behind this gallery.
