Miyaji Stamp Shop
This shop sells both equipment for home Buddhist altars and personal seals used for signatures. Their noren uses 5,000 year old Sanskrit letters arranged in the style of a personal seal. It is pronounced "kiriiku" in Japanese and expresses the name of the buddha Amitabha. It was created using a very detailed kind of tie-dying, which uses stitches of less than five millimeters. This style makes the white letters very prominent against the dark background. Their first noren is the same vermillion color as the ink always used with personal seals. Their second one is the same purple that was used for nobility in ancient times. |
