This house was used as a laundry many years ago. The noren's image resembles clothes spinning in a washing machine. The Asahi River runs through Katsuyama calmly now, but there was much more water in the old days. Back then, many flatboats were found on the river. These flatboats were 14.5 meters in length, 2.4 meters in width, and were pushed with a 7.2 meter pole. They were used as effective transportation to Okayama City until the railroad service reached Katsuyama.
