Yuji Tsuji's Residence
During the Edo Period, this merchant's family dealt in many things as purveyors to the Miura feudal
clan. Their trade name, "Mashima-ya," was widely known, and there are many historical items in
their home and storehouse to this day, such as a temple label made in 1763 and a cabinet from 1822.
They have a seasonal noren with a plum blossom design for use during the annual Hina Doll
Festival. At other times, their noren features the family trademark. The characters ma-shi-ma-ya come from a jute bag used in the old days. |
