The Akimoto family came to Katsuyama from Mikawa, now in east Aichi Prefecture. They were attendants on the Feudal Lord Miura of Katsuyama Castle. Their scarlet noren resembles the mountains of Katsuyama in the glow of the setting sun. They also have a bluish noren based on the Akimoto family crest, Akimoto-uri. The trademark "Mikawa-ya" on the noren was created by Yoshitsugu Miura, the seventeenth feudal lord, when the Akimoto family began their business.
